A novella concerning an older man, his former lover (now "a boozy, bitchy, frowsy woman), and her beguiling daughter with whom he falls in love.
The story was adapted for BBC Radio (Home Service) by Peggy Wells in 1957 in a production starring James Thomason, Kathleen Helme, Sheila Grant and Joan Sanderson. Another adaptation for the BBC (Radio 4), again by Peggy Wells, was produced in 1973 starring Roger Delgado.
