Various British guests at a dinner party in Tahiti consume exotic food and drink, one being accompanied by his vahini (native mistress) — a blank-eyed and unsmiling older woman drinking gin, another arriving with his new vahini — a beautiful, smiling girl of fourteen or fifteen.
