A young boy and his grandfather taking shelter from rain during ploughing are joined by two other men.
The boy hears the men reminisce about a friend recently deceased and the boy forms a picture of the man that 'affected him profoundly. He sat in a state of wonder. Until suddenly he could bear it no longer. He burst into tears'. The men, gazing at him in 'profound amazement', return to their work and the ploughing resumes.
